Customer Service

"There’s not a door you can open around here without running into more opportunity."

Keith – Field Manager
Xerox Services

On joining Xerox:

Fifteen years ago, I was right out of the Navy and I needed a job. So I started at Xerox as a Technician. I had no idea how much I’d learn, how far I’d grow, or just where Xerox could take me.

On his role:

Right now, I work with about 25 technicians. Since they all report to me, I travel a lot. We service Black & White Production equipment for customers that could be anyone from small print shops to major bookmakers. We also work with government agencies. There’s so much variety in our customers that I can’t tell you what’ll happen tomorrow.

On his team:

We’re a great team. This is a really senior group, and their skills are so diverse. They know what they’re doing. They know the equipment. But even with their knowledge, I can help them grow and build their careers. In fact, that’s what I’m most proud of doing at Xerox.

On Xerox:

Xerox is a great place to work. Why? Because of the people. Everyone’s willing to listen and help with just about anything. And there are so many opportunities to grow your skills. Xerox helped me get my Associate’s degree. Now, I’m working on my Bachelor’s degree. Beyond the degrees, my local operation holds weekly lunches for people looking to get into management. If you want to build a career, this is where to do it.

On his future:

I’ve worked here for 15 years and I’m growing at my own pace. I started as a technician, and when I was ready to make a move, I went into management. What’s next? I’m looking to be a regional manager – maybe beyond. But like I said before, there are always opportunities within Xerox. There’s not a door you can open around here without running into more opportunity.

On why you should join us:

If I was sitting across from you, I’d tell you about the benefits and the opportunity. There’s so much that Xerox offers. If it turns out that you don’t like what you’re doing, there are options to change within Xerox. So many different opportunities. Personally, I’ve benefited so much from opportunities that I wouldn’t have anywhere else. What opportunities will you find here?

"Xerox has given me tremendous responsibility."

Julie – Region Vice President
Xerox Services

On joining Xerox:

I started here fixing copiers, and I’ve worked my way up to where I am right now. Xerox has definitely helped make it happen. In fact, Xerox has given me tremendous responsibility. I oversee Profit and Loss (P&L), strategy, sales and a team of 2,000 professionals. It’s great to be a young professional here and have so much expected of me. Also, since I started where I did, I have instant credibility when I talk to my teams.

On communication:

I lead an organization of service delivery professionals who are spread over the West Coast, Guam, Hawaii and Saipan. With such a large group and wide area, communication is key. I regularly hold calls, videos, face-to-face meetings and round tables. This helps me stay connected and explain our goals. I also hear my team’s concerns first-hand.

On her team’s role:

What a team I have! I feel blessed. Whenever our sales people sell something – whether it’s a product, solution or outsourcing deal – my people are the ones who deliver it. We fix the equipment, we support the accounts and we work onsite for customers. It’s such an awesome group that’s been with Xerox for a long time. A true team that rolls up its sleeves and helps each other.

On the best part of her job:

I love working with customers to understand their business problems and challenges, and really help them develop unique solutions. And then, I know my team can deliver on the solution. That’s because, just like everyone else at Xerox, they know how to deliver every time.

On what she’s most proud of:

When I started out and wanted to take on the world, Xerox helped me do it. I had champions and mentors who showed me the way. Now, I’m able to show others the way. I’ve been able to affect the careers of so many people – both in my organization and outside of it. And it’s all happening while I’m climbing as well.

On why you should join Xerox:

You can do whatever you want in this company if you’re willing to work hard, get your education and get the experiences you need to prepare for your next role. We will help you, but at the end of the day, you gotta perform. How will you perform at Xerox?

"Once Xerox gets in your blood, it never gets out."

Mike – Regional Manager
Xerox Services

On his role:

I’m responsible for our service delivery, leading my team of managers and ultimately driving innovation for our customers and for Xerox. My team works onsite with customers, and every day they work to come up with new ways to improve the customers’ processes, their workflow and how they handle documents.

On achieving Xerox goals:

To reach goals, I always link everything back to the customer. To make sure we’re maximizing our relationship, we lead with services. Because we’re onsite, we’re able to bring other products and services to our customers to improve their processes and save them money. I know all of the different resources that Xerox offers, and it’s my responsibility to help bring them together.

On growing his career:

I started at Xerox as a contract worker right out of college, and I still have mentor relationships from back then. Immediately I started finding people, products and opportunities for growth. Once success like Xerox gets in your blood, it never comes out. I chose to stay at Xerox because I saw potential – and now I’m living it.

On the biggest benefit of Xerox:

We really believe in empowerment. As a part of Xerox, you’ll be in charge of your career and success. Related to that is the freedom we all have to take big, calculated risks. That’s the only way we’ll continue to build our brand. In our careers, we can plant seeds and work hard. There are always opportunities to grow.

On his future:

I’m always thinking about what’s next for me. At Xerox, I’ll always find more options. Right now, my job is to develop any skills and make myself marketable. If I lack a competency, I know where I can learn it. The leadership at Xerox knows me, and they know what I’m capable of. Together, we’ll do something amazing.

On what he’s most proud of:

When I was named to the Xerox President’s Club – that was quite an honor. For a salesperson at Xerox, there’s no higher achievement. This is a tough award to win. Actually, you earn it by overachieving. I always saw people win this award, and I made it my goal. The years I worked in sales, I made President’s Club three out of four years. I’m proud of that.

On why you should choose Xerox:

This is a great company, but if you want to succeed here, you need to work hard. I’ve built relationships here that will last. I also have a true sense of pride both in the company and in myself. Basically, if you really want to invest in yourself and your company, Xerox is for you.

Engineering

At Xerox, we develop and market new technologies, products and solutions that customers can depend on to improve business results. Our engineering professionals throughout the world play a key role in making this happen.

"I could do just about anything here."

Neb – Software Engineer – A3/Controllers
Global Products Delivery

On joining Xerox:

I started at Xerox right out of the University of Washington. And right away, I was able to contribute. Right away, I was able to take on more tasks and be a real member of the team. And Xerox wants me to contribute more. They’re currently helping me pay for my Master’s degree that’s focused on computer networks. This will prepare me to be a team lead. After that, I could do just about anything here.

On what he does:

I develop the touch screen interface for multifunctional devices like printers and copiers. This is the piece of the product that brings all of its functionality to life. To make this happen, I incorporate early mark-up languages, scripting languages like Java, and even C++. Every day I could be using all of them. I know so many programming languages – I can’t count them.

On his team:

My team is truly cross-functional. It includes everyone from network engineers and user interface professionals to project managers and graphic designers. We’re all focused on platform development to support a wide range of office products. Working with a SCRUM (agile software development) methodology helps us work even better. Problems are addressed immediately, and we all feel ownership in the process. But SCRUM is about more than fixing problems. It’s also a tool for innovation.

On the best part of his job:

Right now, there’s a real “wow” effect to what I do. Not too many other engineers could really describe their job to just about anyone. My team is lucky. With the touch screen technology that we’re helping develop, I could explain what I do to a second grader. In fact, I have.

On moving the company forward:

How do I help Xerox accomplish its mission? Our big-picture goal on the product side is to develop easy-to-use products. We want to be more user-friendly. Since I work on the user interface, I can directly contribute to this. On our team, we always keep the customer’s goals in mind and think about how they’ll use the product. We often interact with customers to get their feedback.

On why he’s at Xerox:

Whatever you want to do, you’ll probably find the chance to do it here. It’s not all about what you can do for Xerox. It’s also about what Xerox can do for you. From college courses to internal and online training, they’ll help you prepare for what’s next. When you join Xerox, what will you accomplish?

"We’re all empowered. All of us."

Jennifer – Quality Engineer
Global Products Delivery

On what she does at Xerox:

I’m a Quality Engineer. What does that mean? I ensure that every machine that we sell works and performs to Xerox’s high standards. It’s more than testing, more than collecting data. We work directly with the whole value chain – from product development to marketing to field engineers – to address any problems that we come across with any part of the machine.

On the Quality Initiative:

The Quality Initiative team is a pilot program. I was hired for the quality team and had a say in how it was set up. And since it’s a pilot, I have a say in its success as well. And, it’s going to be very beneficial to Xerox, but we have to prove ourselves.

On what she’s most proud of:

My patents. In my line of work, those are better than anything. And we get rewarded for them. I have three patents that I earned as a mechanical design engineer. And they’re being used today.

On the best part of her job:

We’re all empowered. All of us. It’s refreshing to be able to express ideas and opinions, and no one is afraid to tell someone how they feel. In fact, we’re encouraged to do just that. Also, I have to mention flextime. As long as you do your job, it almost doesn’t matter when you work. They’re very flexible.

What’s next?

I’ve been with Xerox for ten years, and I’m going to stay with the Quality Initiative to help it get off the ground. Then, I’ll move into a management role. Xerox helped me earn an MBA, and I’ll use that to help the company. Xerox will give any professional the chance to do something new. And they’re giving me that chance as well. How can they do the same for you?

"I don’t like standing still."

Chad – Service Strategy Manager
Global Business & Strategic Marketing

On what he does:

I develop and implement our office service strategy. What does this mean? We’re making our products more intuitive, so customers need minimal support and can be self-sufficient. I develop the strategies that help make that happen. I also work with office service personnel to lower total service times and costs.

On his team:

We’re a really tight group that’s divided into many areas. Some focus on pre-launch reliability, some work on post-sale support, and others gather global service data and conduct modeling analysis. We’re always interacting with different organizations within Xerox – from sales and marketing, to product and parts. We’re truly cross-functional.

On reaching business goals:

Xerox is big on innovation. One way to get there is to develop reliable products that are easy for customers to maintain. If there’s an issue, our goal is for our customers to not need to call service. The solution should be easy and intuitive, or one that we can solve remotely. All of this will minimize product downtime and costs, and ultimately headaches for our customers.

On the best part of his job:

The best part of my job is working with such a diverse group from around the world. I’m learning and seeing so much. For instance, I’ve learned that in the Japanese market, customers are more willing to work on steps to solve a problem. However, in other markets, the customers don’t want to do that work. They want things done for them. It’s amazing how much our customer’s culture affects how we service a machine. That’s just one thing that makes Xerox so interesting.

On why he stayed:

I don’t like standing still. I love the diversity and dedication to innovation and creativity at Xerox. I did co-ops at other companies prior to Xerox. The other companies tended to narrow your focus and drive you in a direction. I’ve never seen that at Xerox. They give everyone the options and freedom to fail or succeed.

On what he’s most proud of:

Personally, it would have to be getting my degree, because I was doing that full-time and working full-time. And it was the beginning of my growth and success here. It also showed me how much Xerox was willing to work with their professionals. Professionally, I’m proud of putting out quality products and seeing people use them.

On why you should join Xerox:

This is a company that strives for innovation and creativity. We look for it in our people and we try to nurture it. Because of this, there’s the potential for continuous growth. If you want to build a career path, you’ll have the freedom to do it. Xerox will help guide you towards success. How will you succeed?

R&D

"I don’t do the same thing every day."

Bryan – Systems Reliability Engineer
Xerox Innovation Group

On his role at Xerox:

I work on solid ink technology. This is a new direction for Xerox and for the industry. It could replace ink jet or laser printing. The ink is easier to work with, prints better and produces less waste. Specifically, I’m developing parts for a high-density printing device. This is just one of the ways that we’re working on cutting-edge research for next-generation printing, copying and document management systems.

On his team:

We all get along great, and we have professionals from all disciplines. There are materials scientists, reliability engineers, systems engineers and process development engineers. We all work together to develop, test, model and prototype product ideas to spearhead innovation for the entire company. It’s a diverse group. We come from all over the world, and we bring our own experiences to every project.

On working with customers:

Around Xerox, you’ll hear the phrase “customer-led innovation” a lot. A big part of this comes from sitting down with our customers and dreaming up new ideas. Here we take those ideas and breathe life into them. A direct result of these meetings is our renewed commitment to being environmentally conscious. Our customers are asking for products and services that can minimize their environmental footprint. We’re working on those technologies today, and it feels great to know I’m a part of it.

On the best part of his job:

It has to be the fact that I don’t do the same thing every day. I work in a cutting-edge research environment, and that means my line of work is always changing. I’m constantly implementing my own ideas into new processes.

On the biggest benefit of Xerox:

It’s not a traditional benefit, but I’d have to say stability. It feels good to know that I work for a global company – one that’s well positioned to perform in any economy. I also enjoy being part of a company with such a solid tradition of innovation. Xerox is a name that everyone knows, and to be a part of it is an honor. My colleagues are world-class engineers and scientists. And so am I.

On his future with Xerox:

I grew up in Rochester and followed the advances in Xerox technology. Today, I’m part of the group that’s developing the next advances. But this isn’t where I’ll always be. Xerox encourages us to develop and advance our careers. Ready to advance yours?

"I have the freedom to work on solutions. Any solutions."

Peter – Principal Scientist and Project Lead
Xerox Innovation Group

On what he does:

At the end of the day, printing is judged by one thing: Image quality. And that’s what I focus on. My team of scientists and engineers performs experiments and develops new product prototypes for high-quality color printing. Think of us as the team that develops concept cars for the auto industry. We develop and discover the innovations and ideas that make Xerox printers even better.

On his career at Xerox:

I came to Xerox with some experience and a Ph.D. The first thing I noticed was the freedom that I had to define my role within the organization. I also had no idea so much went into a laser printer. Xerox had the kinds of technology I wanted to work on. And we still do.

On the best part of his job:

Everyone wants pictures to be prettier and prettier. And Xerox has been clear about communicating the goal of growth in color printing. As a scientist, we can contribute directly to that. If we can improve image quality, we can make a difference. We can come up with a clever way to do something that no one else thought of.

On his future with Xerox:

I’m a technical guy and pretty biased towards technology. The things we do are amazing. Right now in my role, I have the freedom to work on solutions. Any solutions. That’s what I love to do. Some day, I’ll make the move to another area of the company, and when I do, Xerox will support me every step of the way. But that day can wait.

On what he’s most proud of:

My team worked on the current release of our flagship product: iGen4. The iGen4 is a shining example of our commitment to color printing. We’re able to compete directly with offset printing. And one of the reasons for that is an automatic density control that eliminates streakiness in the image. This process took years to develop, and I was part of it from the beginning.

On why you should choose Xerox:

Xerox is a technology player who has made the digital transition. And the breadth of our technology is outstanding. Also, my interest is to apply mathematical algorithms for image quality. And Xerox put me in a position to work on that. They can put you in a position to succeed as well.

"There’s no ‘normal’ path to succeed here – we all have chances to lead."

Tonya – Program Manager/Project Leader
Xerox Innovation Group

On her role:

Actually, I have two jobs. One is an Area Manager in our Material Design Systems Group. Here, I lead a team that’s developing new materials for fuser design. The other is Green Program Manager. This allows me to work with people across all lines of business within Xerox to make us a greener company. I was working as an assistant to the president of Xerox Innovation Group (XIG), and she offered me this outstanding opportunity.

On her career:

I started as an Electrical Engineer in Webster, New York, and after my first few projects I realized that I have a passion for being a leader. To me, it’s more fulfilling to help a team realize a goal than just working alone. This helped me see that there’s more to my success with Xerox than just me.

On her future at Xerox:

I’d like to stay in the management track and continue to grow. This way I can affect bigger things, stay global and lead international projects. I want to help people with their careers and succeed like I did. And as I continue to grow in leadership positions, I can do just that.

On the favorite parts of her job:

I really enjoy working in the Xerox Research Centre of Canada. It’s very diverse, and I like learning and understanding different things about different people. My job allows me to be creative. Our team brainstorms a solution and sees that solution go from conception to production. We create a product out of nothing that will help our customers. I love that.

On the biggest benefit:

Personally, my involvement in the green initiative is so exciting. We’re working with all kinds of technology, from hardware and services, to ink and toner. It’s proof that people here can make a difference. And here we do that every day.

On why you should join Xerox:

Once I decided Xerox was for me, my career took off. And I didn’t have to take the normal path to succeed here. Actually, there really is no normal path. We have flexibility, and we all have chances to lead. I took advantage of every opportunity. And I still do. What will you do here?

Information Technology

"If you want IT, this is the place."

Anne – Operations Manager
Information Management

On her role at Xerox:

My team supports the IT needs of Xerox offices in countries in Central and South America. We work with the IT organizations in each country to manage business apps, telecommunications and workstations. Recently my team was part of a major acquisition. Actually, bringing in another company was fun. We were able to influence the infrastructure of the company. That’s because IT touches every area of the business.

On her team:

Since I work mostly in South and Central America, my team is very diverse. We have everyone from business systems analysts and architects, to project program managers and strategists. What’s great is that everyone’s working towards a common goal. We all want what’s best for our customer.

On why she’s at Xerox:

If you want IT, this is the place. The company has helped me do so many things. They helped pay for my MBA, they’ve believed in me and they’ve worked around my schedule and my life. With 30 years in IT, I’ve seen it all. But I’ve really enjoyed my time with Xerox. I’m able to contribute. I couldn’t imagine having these opportunities somewhere else.

Biggest benefit:

To me, the biggest benefit is the opportunity to grow. Because we’re such a large company, there are so many opportunities to grow and to do new things. You’ll never be bored here. And the flexibility is nice as well. Earlier in my career, I went to a 4-day work week to be with my family more. And if I needed to change my schedule again, Xerox would help me find a way to make it happen.

Why Xerox?

If you have a high energy level and are ready to contribute, Xerox is for you. In fact, I’ve been here for 30 years and I’m still finding interesting projects and interesting things to work on. This is a great company with a solid past and an exciting future. What can you build here?

"I’ll retire before I run out of places to take my career."

Daniel – Manager, Business Analysis
Information Management

On his role:

Right now, I’m implementing a system that allows Xerox to analyze financial information in a new way. We’re using a mix of technology and financial tools to create a transparent financial system to help leadership make better, smarter and faster financial decisions. I set the scope of projects that put powerful information in the hands of powerful people.

On his team:

We’re a small core of Xerox people who help the business and technology community bridge the gap between where we are and where we want to be. This is a global team that incorporates a diverse mix of professionals from many backgrounds.

On why he stayed at Xerox:

I started at Xerox as an intern about eight years ago. Since then I’ve done a lot of growing and learning – including getting an MBA. Everyone here has been very responsive to my desire to advance my career. We all have a tremendous opportunity to grow – actually, I think of it as a responsibility. Xerox is a global company, and I’ll retire before I run out of places to take my career.

On his biggest benefit:

The skills that I’ve learned on my job are unmatched. Yes, Xerox helped me earn an MBA. But the things I learn every day from my co-workers and by doing my job, I couldn’t get those anywhere else. I recently began applying some of the financial tools that I’ve learned at Xerox at some non-profit organizations in the area. I’m implementing Fortune 500-level financial tools to help them achieve their goals, and at the same time I’m achieving mine.

On what’s next:

I’m looking to do two things. First, I want to manage projects in the services area. This is a growing area of the business, and I think my skills are a good fit there. Second, I want to work in a specialty area where I can influence the company’s profitability. I’ve spent enough time helping make the company more efficient. Now, it’s time to help make it more profitable.

On why you should join:

You can make a difference here. If you have somewhere you want to take your career, or some big dreams, start here. Because when you join Xerox, you aren’t just joining a company. You’re part of a team of great people doing great work. Who wouldn’t want to be part of that? When can you join us?

"My career roadmap isn’t a straight line at Xerox."

Laura – Order Fulfillment Program Manager
Information Management

On what she does:

My team is updating the supply chain inventory system. The new software needs to speak to many different systems. I coordinate the activities of a team that includes Xerox professionals, contractors, consultants and on-shore and off-shore development teams. It’s a big job. Every department that touches the supply chain is involved in the process. And they’ll all be satisfied by the results.

On the best part of job:

The best part is definitely the cooperative nature of my team. Working with all of these different groups, the dedication, support and collaboration are just outstanding. We work so well together. It’s very difficult to see where one group ends and where another one starts. Knowing that I have this well-trained and cooperative team – it’s amazing. The lines are completely blurred.

On why she chose Xerox:

I was working for a small benefits administrator and had climbed as high as I could. Looking down the road, I didn’t see more opportunities there. I saw that Xerox would give me opportunities to grow and learn. Here, I can do that every day. Whatever job I take, I’ll be in process improvement – that’s my passion. And Xerox has continuous opportunities for me.

On her future at Xerox:

I don’t know what my future holds, but I do know that I have a lot of opportunity within this company. Some people have a very clear roadmap, and they know the ultimate job that they want. I’m more focused on having the opportunity to learn and stay interested. Maybe I’ll go into the product world, or maybe marketing. My career roadmap isn’t a straight line at Xerox. It’ll wind a bit. And it’s working fine for me.

On what she’s most proud of:

I’m very focused on process, and I can explain it to anyone. Now, when I get a call from someone that I worked with three, five, even seven years ago and they’re asking me about process-related information, I know that I made process not so scary. And that’s a good thing. I’m proud of that.

On why you should choose Xerox:

I’ve had a variety of people ask me what they should do. What I suggest is to think about the things that make them want to come to work every day. Seek out an opportunity that allows you to achieve things that you want to do. I found exactly that at Xerox, and so have 50,000 other people. What will you find here?

Marketing

"I love solving the big, sticky problems."

Sharon – SCRUM Master
Global Product Delivery

On her role:

I’m more of a coach, a shepherd. SCRUM is an iterative incremental process of software development commonly used with agile software development. With SCRUM, our teams work in small chunks of time and different customers and different groups. This also helps the whole organization get higher quality software out the door so our customers can get what they want. After all, that’s why we’re here. The solutions we develop will be used by banks and other companies with high-volume printing needs, but our real customers are internal groups. They’re right here with us.

On what she’s most proud of:

I was part of team that moved towards Xerox implementing SCRUM. I started by attending training about SCRUM. I saw the potential for faster turnaround times, less turnover and higher quality. It also tends to foster much happier employees. I said to myself, “I have to be a part of this.” I saw the benefit that SCRUM would bring to Xerox and jumped in with both feet. It’s been a tough but worthwhile process, and we’re definitely seeing the results.

On her team:

I love solving the big, sticky problems. And the team of developers I have is willing to work through just about any problem. Why? For one, we get along great, and the team excels at not holding back. Also, we work with customers and interact with different groups, so we need to make sure that the best ideas make it out the door.

On why she’s stayed at Xerox:

It starts with good pay, but what’s even better is the wonderful flexibility – the work/life balance that Xerox helps me achieve. If you want to work a different schedule or work from home and can make a business case for it, Xerox will work with you to make it happen. There are a lot of good people here.

On her future with Xerox:

I see myself with a real future at Xerox because it’s so easy to make a difference here. They helped me earn a Master’s degree in Imaging Science, and this is preparing me for my next moves. However, there are so many people here willing to help that I know that I’ll always be able to stay in an active role no matter where I go at Xerox. Where will you go at Xerox?

"It’s amazing how many people share their knowledge here."

Carole – Electrical Engineer
Global Product Delivery

On her role:

Right now, my team works on circuit board designs for really big, high-volume printers. We start with project requirements, and my team brainstorms ways to build them faster, smarter and cheaper – while still satisfying the business requirements of the customer. Sometimes we work alone, sometimes as a team, but we all collaborate really well.

On her team:

Our work touches many groups, and we work closely with many other areas of Xerox. My team works with both mechanical and software components of Xerox devices. We’re a pretty tight group, and half of us are from outside the States. We’re also all really young. This helps us work really well together, we’re always sharing and pushing each other’s ideas.

On networking and communication:

When I joined Xerox, I didn’t know anyone here. I also didn’t know anyone in Rochester. In order to help welcome other new hires, I helped found the Xerox Young Professionals Group. The group conducts social and networking events. It also includes a popular blog that’s getting more and more traffic from VPs and company leaders. They post on the blog, answer questions and join in the discussions. It’s amazing how many people share their knowledge here.

On the best part of her job:

There are a few best parts, but most involve working with other people. That makes my day. I work with so many teams and on interesting projects. Also, my involvement in the Xerox Young Professionals Group keeps me in touch with people throughout Xerox. I really enjoy helping Xerox recruit on college campuses. That’s when I can talk directly to students about my experiences and about their potential.

On her future at Xerox:

Where am I going? Really, I have no idea. Obviously, I want to move around because there’s so much to do at Xerox. But in the short term I’ll probably move somewhere I can get a higher-level view of the machines that we work on. That’s probably the natural next step for me. However, anything’s possible here.

On why you should join:

Whatever you’re interested in, you’ll find a group at Xerox for you. When I came to Xerox, I didn’t know what to expect. I’ve been impressed every step of the way – by the level of skill, by the level of diversity, by the level of professionalism and by the level of camaraderie. If there’s something you want to do with your career, and you can make a case that it will help Xerox, you can do it here. What will you do at Xerox?

"This is a very impressive group."

Matthew – Competitive Marketing
Global Business & Strategic Marketing

On his role:

I’m responsible for color competitive marketing. What does that mean? I’m directly involved in the direction of our business. I research our competition and their products to understand what’s good and bad about them. Then, I create marketing plans so our sales team knows how to position our products. I work closely with engineers and give feedback to future product development.

On his team:

This is a very impressive group. My team is responsible for competitive and product marketing. The team’s highly skilled and highly collaborative. We all approach projects with the idea that we can take chances and pursue new ideas. That brings some pretty exciting ideas to the table.

On joining Xerox:

Over ten years ago, I saw that Xerox was moving to digital printing. Actually, they were doing quite well in it. Xerox was bringing in good people, and I wanted to be a part of what they were doing. My background in offset printing helped me bring a different perspective to digital printing. Every day, I see that I’m definitely affecting the future of Xerox. I can provide input for future products and their direction.

On his future with Xerox:

For starters, I always look one year out. I see how the company is positioning itself in digital color, and right now I’m in a pretty good place. I’m also getting my Doctorate in Industrial and Organizational Psychology; this will help me eventually work with a wider group and help other Xerox employees grow and develop. No matter what, I’ll keep Xerox on the cutting edge.

On the best part of his job:

I love interacting with people. And that’s what I do every day. I have a technical background, so I can understand engineers. With my background in printing, I’m also able to talk directly with customers as well. I have an understanding of their business and how we can help drive revenue. This brings unique feedback and insights to the team and into our products.

On why you should join Xerox:

There’s huge opportunity within the company. We have the right leadership in place, and as an employee, you have the opportunity to learn and grow. Actually, you can do what you want with your career at Xerox. What will you do here?

Global Services

"I craved an environment where I’d be challenged and be able to make a larger contribution."

David – Principal Document Outsourcing and Communications Practice
Global Services

On taking his career to Xerox:

Over my career, I’ve done many things and have worked in a variety of industries, from telecommunications to high-end printing. With one of those companies, Xerox was my largest customer. I saw that they had a lot of very smart and driven people, and I craved an environment where I’d be challenged and be able to make a larger contribution. It’s turned out great. Recently, my team closed a multi-million order with a new customer.

On what he does at Xerox:

As a sales solutions executive, I am part of a team that deals exclusively with our top 300 accounts. I team with an architect and enterprise consultant to uncover business opportunities with these top accounts. With Xerox moving to be even more services-led, it’s our job to look at opportunities and help drive them through the sales process.

On the best part of his job:

The simple answer? Closing the order. That part’s good for everyone. It means that we’ve worked together to create a solution that the customer needs and delivered it at a price that’s good for Xerox. To get this done, I have a lot of fun engaging with different people at different organizations and finding ways to help them work better. I’m also able to combine my sales skills, technical ability and business skills in a way that’s meaningful.

On what’s next:

It starts with me broadening my contribution. This will help me expand into management. You see, I’m not here to sell copiers. [Our CEO] Anne Mulcahy has said we’re a services-led business, and I’m in the business of leading our services. It doesn’t get much more aligned than that.

On the biggest benefit to him:

I get paid for doing work that I enjoy. I have a strong career path. Think about it this way: In these economic times, it’s good to work for a company whose mission is to drive process improvement and take cost out of business. We offer a service that everyone needs. And it’s my job to make that connection.

On why you should choose Xerox:

If you’re interested in working for bright and talented people, and want to be in a place where your contribution will make a difference. The company has very high expectations for people and really expects you to make a notable contribution. If you’re looking for some big company to go hide in, this is not a good place to work. However, if you’re motivated and want to contribute, it’s a great place to work. When can you start?

"The people here are outstanding."

Alicia – Global Account General Manager
Global Services

On her role:

As a Global Account General Manager, I’m basically the “sales lead” for some of our larger accounts in the Healthcare Division. Other people are the main contacts, while I develop the strategy for the accounts, and maintain and grow the business. From where I sit, I’m able to see all sides of the sales relationship, and I help each team member see them as well. At our frequent team meetings, we jointly develop and assess strategies for each client.

On the best part of her job:

The people. That’s about as simple as I can say it. The people here are outstanding. And if you don’t have that, work can be taxing. My team is smart, dynamic, fun, honest, reliable and hard working. I can’t say enough good things about them. And we all have the same goals: We want to be successful and help the company do the same. In the end, that’s why we’re at Xerox.

On her future at Xerox:

What does the future hold for me at Xerox? For starters, I’m working my way towards a position as a Vice President. And to help me prepare, I’m taking more leadership development training. Right now, I don’t need an MBA. In fact, that’s not something that I’m looking to get. That’s the beauty of Xerox. There’s more than one way to succeed here.

On what she’s most proud of:

I’m proud of the mega-deal that my team was able to close. It was worth $71 million, and at that point, it was the largest ever. They started a wall of fame at headquarters for mega-deals, and my team was the first to make the wall. I’m pretty proud of that.

On why you should join Xerox:

This part of the business is not commodities-focused – we don’t sell products or copiers. Here, it’s all about the services and the relationships. If you’re very people-oriented and driven, you can’t go wrong building a career with Xerox. Yes, we have high standards. But if you have the right mind-set, you can achieve anything here.

"Your opportunities are only limited by you."

Yvette – Managing Principal
Global Services

On her role:

I’m a Managing Principal for a new line of business. I lead a team of sales people who focus on selling and ensuring quality delivery for our services. We help clients enhance and refine their business process. We’ll take something they do that’s document-intensive and optimize the processes.

On joining Xerox:

I just joined the company, and I took a few months to get up to speed before I entered my new role. This allowed me to get to know the business, the people and Xerox. That I could learn all of that before I stepped up to take over part of the business is a huge advantage.

On the Xerox environment:

Xerox started as a small company and grew with people who knew each other. Other companies have grown with people popping in and out. I think having people here for 25 to 30 years just adds to the environment. They all have different choices, different opportunities and different growth paths. That experience is definitely valued here.

On technology:

The other fantastic thing about Xerox is the amount of time and resources that we dedicate to technology. We see a true investment in R&D. Just look at the number of patents we’re awarded every year – this is just one testament to our commitment.

On the biggest benefit:

I can do anything at Xerox. Think about that for your own career: How many different things can you do, and how many times can you re-invent yourself? Here, you can grow a skills base that you can take with you to other roles and assignments.

On her future at Xerox:

My future is quite bright. After just ten months, it’s clear to me that my skills, talent and ideas are valued at Xerox. I’ve quickly developed a network of support – these are people who believe that I can do great things. My most recent assignment is a huge example of that.

On why you should join Xerox:

This is a tremendously innovative company with amazing, smart and talented people. Your opportunities are only limited by you. We’re a core company that has the exact things that someone who’s looking for something new and challenging is looking for. What will you find here?

Sales

"Anyone who’s motivated and driven can succeed here."

Jacinth – Services and Solutions Executive
United States Solutions Group

What she does:

I work with clients locally to sell Xerox services, hardware and software. Some salespeople specialize in just one product, but at Xerox, I’m in a position to sell them all. Yes, I travel a lot – probably 40% of the time. But it’s great. I’m able to build existing client relationships and also build the business by making calls on new clients. We also have a support structure for pricing, virtual sales and other pieces of the business.

On the best part of her day:

I love working with customers. This is where I can bring value to Xerox, and I just love the interaction. I’m able to bring value to my customers’ businesses, and their success inspires me. Also, my workgroup is a very diverse group that’s always very helpful. Everyone’s available to answer questions and provide support. That’s a huge help to me.

On Xerox’s true benefits – our people:

For one, I love that we have special interest groups like the National Black Employee Association, groups for women, Asians, everyone. These groups are a great way to help network and give support when you’re making a career decision. It’s something I’ve never had before.

On her future:

Anyone who’s motivated and driven can succeed here. Someday, I see myself in an executive position. There are opportunities to grow your career. You just need to go after them. And with Xerox’s history of innovation, the company will be in a good position for years to come.

On what she’s most proud of:

After being in a sales territory for just six months, I saw an opportunity with a customer. I worked closely with them to determine their needs. Initially, they thought we could deliver, install and support 20 new devices in that month. I delivered and installed more than 110! I was able to appeal to the customer’s needs and assured them that we could do it. And in the end, we saved the customer money and time.

On why you should join us:

If you’re looking for a job, you can work anywhere. If you want a company with a strong history, great people, innovative products and opportunities for anyone to succeed, Xerox is for you. What are you looking for?

"I’ve had about ten different jobs here."

Linda – Graphic Communications Solutions Executive
United States Solutions Group

On her role:

I’m a sales person for our Graphic Communications Team. I work primarily with commercial printers and print-for-pay customers. These customers are family-run businesses that are passed down through generations. They’re putting a lot of faith in us to deliver a product that will meet their needs. And when we’re able to exceed their needs, it feels pretty good.

On the biggest benefit of her job:

Actually, it’s job satisfaction. You see, I’m a people person. And here I can see the customers I work with blossom and grow with the technology. These are businesses that may have struggled to stay in business as the technology changed. There are a lot of rewards to helping them out. I frequently help customers integrate a web-services portal to their business. Now, they’re able to bring in business while they sleep.

On growing her career:

I started here as a secretary. As part of that job, I’d process sales contests and bonus checks for sales people, and I said, “I want to do that.” Since then, I’ve probably had about ten different jobs here. Most of them were in sales roles. This isn’t a place where you’ll get bored – because there’s always something new to learn and somewhere new to take your career. Xerox is always keeping us sharp by offering training programs and learning initiatives.

On her future:

I’m starting another new role soon, and I’m proof that your future is what you make it. If you have a desire to do something and make it known. Xerox will help you achieve it.

On why you should choose Xerox:

If you find out that you like what you’re doing, you can certainly keep doing it at Xerox. But that’s not my style. I want more and I want to keep moving, so there are always opportunities for me. Are you a hard worker who likes a dynamic workplace and people and diversity and challenges and rewards? If so, Xerox is where you’ll find it all.

"I know I’m expected to do my best."

Charles – VP USSG Sales Operations
United States Solutions Group

On what he does:

I’m in charge of sales operations for USSG. Our team supports salespeople who sell every Xerox product and service – ranging from small printers to our largest printing systems, and spanning from very simple customer engagements to our most complex outsourcing arrangements. We make sure salespeople have the support, training and resources they need to be successful.

On his team:

We’re long-tenured, cohesive and extremely hardworking. We oversee a very large direct sales force. We collaborate to make decisions about everything, from compensation to what products our salespeople should sell.

On seeing the big picture:

We see the big picture very clearly – my team executes the company’s big-picture strategies. When Xerox decides to go in a direction – for instance, increasing market share in production color – it’s our job to give our sales teams the tools they need to succeed. That’s a tremendous responsibility, but my team is up for it.

On why he’s stayed at Xerox:

I’m still here because of the friendships and the culture at Xerox. There’s real decency in the way people are treated. When I decided to change careers, I had support from high levels of Xerox. I know I’m expected to do my best. It’s a highly energetic, highly rewarding place to work.

On the best part of the day:

The best part? It’s when my team can do the intense, behind-the-scenes work that makes life easier for our sales team. We let them focus on selling, not on paperwork. When we’re able to make the job of the salesperson easier, we’re doing our jobs. I love that.

On why you should join Xerox:

Ask yourself two questions: One, what are you good at? And two, what do you enjoy? Your goal is to find a place where you can combine both. At Xerox, we have so many options and so much support, you can find what you’re looking for here. I’m proof of that. Halfway through my career, I went from being a corporate lawyer to running a sales operation, and Xerox supported me every step of the way. What will you find?

Whatever it is, you’ll probably find it here

There are so many places to succeed here – it’s hard to pick just one career. Good thing we’ll give you the chance to move around, build your skills and make your experience at Xerox your own. For decades, we’ve given new grads and seasoned professionals the same opportunities to succeed and the same employee-focused environment. This is where your career, your skills and your ambition can grow as you do.
